Gold Coast Dog Trainer — Empowering owners to become confident leaders
Meet Tim

Tim Pratt spent 13 years as a tactical response dog handler and instructor with Queensland Corrective Services, working and training dogs in some of the most demanding, high-stakes environments imaginable. During that time he personally partnered with five tactical response dogs and two drug detection dogs, and played a key role in the development and training of dogs deployed throughout Queensland. That experience gave him something no classroom could: a profound, lived understanding of what it truly means to work in partnership with dogs.
When Tim founded Diverse Dogs, he brought that foundation with him, along with a training philosophy that goes well beyond commands and compliance. His approach weaves together science-based methods, leadership principles, and a deep respect for each dog’s genetic makeup and innate drives. He believes that when dogs are given the opportunity to express who they naturally are, and when owners learn to lead with clarity, consistency, and genuine connection, something transformational happens for both ends of the lead.
In 2022, Tim transitioned out of Corrections after being diagnosed with cumulative PTSD. Conventional treatments offered little relief, and it was through that difficult chapter that he discovered breathwork, presence, and a deeper understanding of consciousness. These practices became the foundation of his own healing, teaching him how to regulate his nervous system and release the patterns of dysregulation that had built up over years of continuous exposure to violence, trauma, and critical incidents.
That personal journey is now central to everything Tim does. As a certified breathwork coach, he understands that a dog’s behaviour is often a mirror of their handler’s internal state, or a reflection of the dog’s own dysregulated nervous system. Teaching people to regulate themselves isn’t a side note, it’s part of the work. It’s also at the heart of the Breaths and Barks retreats Tim facilitates, where breathwork, co-regulation, and canine connection come together in a genuinely unique experience.
Tim brings rare depth to this field. Not just as a trainer, but as someone who has walked through his own transformation and come out the other side with something real to offer.
Dog training is not merely about obedience — it encompasses the holistic well-being of both dogs and their owners. By embracing diversity, honouring genetic needs, and fostering emotional connections, we create a truly transformative experience.
